Stars Mentoring Program

The STARS Mentoring Program provides school children with the opportunity to be matched with an adult volunteer who will meet for one hour a week in the child's school. The two spend time doing activities of mutual interest such as playing board games, reading, crafts, etc. Mentoring matches have proven to enhance the child's self-esteem, increase social skills and self-confidence and improve school performance and attendance.

This program is a joint partnership between:

  •  Wetaskiwin Regional Public Schools
  •  HUB Mental Health Capacity Building Program
  •  and the Boys and Girls Club of Wetaskiwin.

We wish to thank the Provincal Chapter of Alberta IODE for their continued support of this program.

Volunteer's DO Make a Difference!

"I wanted to let you know that when I gave (student's name removed) the parent consent form and explained to her that it was so she could meet with her mentor again this year her face lit up and she had the biggest smile on her face. She was truly grinning from ear to ear and beaming with excitement! I think this speaks to the value of the STARS program and the positive difference a mentor can have on student!"

Thank you for all that you do!
